A 3 Day Guide to Singapore

October 29, 2016

Singapore is a city of contrasts but is also a well balanced big town. Everything runs smoothly, like the trains, always running in time, as the many cultures living together, coexisting peacefully.

We spend 3 days chilling, wondering around and sipping drinks at the highest building in the city-country. Check out our itinerary in Singapore, the Lion City.

A 3 Day Guide in Singapore

Day 1:

1pm – Arrival & Lunch: We arrived at Changi Airport and quickly made our way to the train station. We travelled easily to our destination in less than an hour by train (which costs less than AU$2). Around the corner from our accommodation, we found a hawker stall (or local street food area). The place is packed with locals who mindlessly eat their meals in shared tables. We roam around trying to get used to the language and find something familiar to start with. A dish here usually costs from AU$4 to AU$8. Most restaurants serve pecking ducks or whole fish as their main dish. We look around to find something that interest our hungry stomachs. We settle for the Chinese Hong Kong Noodles with vegetables. With a local Tiger beer from the stall next door, our total bill is AU$12 for two! We got back to our room and relaxed after a long night without sleep.

5pm – Little India: We took the train and visited the famous Little India. Bursting with colours as they celebrate Deepavali (or Diwali, a festival that celebrates Spring and the victory of light over darkness) all the shops are decorated with flowers and colourful banners. We stopped at a local restaurant and ate Palak Paneer with garlic naan bread. Yum!

Day 2:

8am – Day in Sentosa: We visited one of the most popular islands in Singapore, Sentosa. A small islet with many different attractions such as tranquil and quiet beaches or adrenaline packed rides scattered all around. Visit Universal Studios or pretend you are skydiving and spend the whole day there having a good time. The train leaves from the last level of Harbourfront (Vivo City) and only costs about AU$4 (return ticket).

4pm – Chinatown: We jumped off the train before heading home for a last minute shopping. Chinatown has plenty of food offers and some exquisite temples to visit.
Don’t miss the Tooth Relic Buddha Temple. Quite fantastic!

Day 3:

8am – Botanic Gardens: Heading towards north of the city centre, we arrive at the Botanic Gardens. A must do experience if you love nature. Read more about different species of trees, plants and flowers and even indulge in a walk around the Orchard. A feast to the eyes and a relaxing way to calm down right in the heart of the city.

1pm – Marina Bay & Gardens by the Bay: Last but not least, we leave the famous landmark of Singapore as a present for our last day. We arrived at Marina Bay and walked towards the gigantic Marina Bay Sands resort. The size and architecture of one of the most impressive buildings ever to be built is magnificent. Go around the promenade and check the Arts & Science Museum. Then go up across the Helix bridge to enjoy a different perspective of the Bay.

Before we head all the way up to the rooftop, we made a quick stop at Gardens by the Bay (just behind Marina Bay). We walked towards the Supertree Grove and lastly, visited the Conservatorium.

There are tickets to both of them (Flower Dome and Forest Cloud) but we took the plunge on the latter (for AU$16) and weren’t disappointed. As you enter in the chilled dome, you face a huge 35 metre high waterfall and enjoy the cool drizzling while you stop for a picture. Go around and see all different flora in one space, making your way to the top by the lift then going down while your learn more about the ecosystem needed to maintain such a great variety of life. End the trip learning more about handy ways of helping the environment and taking care of the planet. On the way out of the Gardens, keep your eyes on the many Supertrees scattered around the 101 hectares of land.

When you make your way back to the Marina Bay, find tower 3 entrance and purchase tickets to go up the Sky Bar (Ce La Vi) and use the tickets to buy a drink while you enjoy the sunset views. Stay a little longer to see the city light up and go around the other side to see the Gardens completely lit up in a breath-taking view.
